Senior Scientist Dr. Raj Krishnaswamy to Discuss Environmental Impact and Industry Challenges of Bioplastics at Leading Plastics Conference

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ANTEC Boston—Metabolix, a leading industrial biotechnology company focused on developing clean, sustainable solutions for plastics, chemicals and energy, today announced that Senior Scientist Dr. Raj Krishnaswamy will present at ANTEC 2011's Fundamentals and Fellows Forum. Dr. Krishnaswamy's presentation, "Opportunities and Challenges in Biobased and Biodegradable Plastics," will explore the history of bioplastics, discuss the environmental impact of these materials and examine the current landscape of commercially available bioplastics. The presentation will help attendees learn more about the major technical challenges that bioplastics must overcome to sustain the current high-growth rate in their production and utilization.

About the Speaker

Dr. Raj Krishnaswamy is a senior scientist at Metabolix, Inc. where he leads the development of a family of biobased and biodegradable polymers for film and blow-molding applications. Prior to joining Metabolix in 2006, Dr. Krishnaswamy spent nine years in the polymer science group at Chevron Phillips Chemical Company.

Earlier this year, Dr. Krishnaswamy received the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Research and Technology award. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Plastic Film and Sheeting and the Encyclopedia of Polymer Science and Technology. Additionally, he serves on the Engineering Properties and Structure Division (EPSDIV) and bioplastics boards of SPE, as well as the materials science board of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). To date, Dr. Krishnaswamy has co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, and has been an invited speaker at many conferences and universities worldwide.
