Metabolix Launches Mvera™ B5011, A New Certified Compostable Film Grade Resin For Transparent Film And Bag Applications

Dec 3, 2013

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Metabolix, Inc. (NASDAQ: MBLX), an innovation-driven performance biomaterials company delivering sustainable solutions to the plastics, chemicals and energy industries, today launched Mvera™ B5011, a new film grade resin that allows for production of compostable, and highly transparent, film and bags.

Metabolix designed Mvera B5011 to meet international industrial standards for compostability, while also enabling customers to produce films for compostable bags and packaging applications with exceptional transparency compared to competing products. B5011 is certified for compostability by Vincotte to meet the EN13432 standard and by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) to meet the ASTM D6400 standard. The new film grade resin processes well on existing blown film equipment and features a good balance of puncture toughness, tear propagation resistance, seal strength, printability and durability.

"Mvera B5011 extends our compostable film product line to include a product with a unique combination of features by pairing robust bag durability with superior clarity, touch and feel," said Bob Engle, vice president, biopolymers at Metabolix. "This latest addition to the Mvera film grade lineup is an example of our drive to produce innovative resins that provide differentiated solutions to our bag and packaging customers, and to serve broader market demand."

Mvera B5011 builds on the success of Mvera B5010, which Metabolix launched in September 2013. Mvera B5010 also offers a balance of physical properties with the toughness and load-bearing capability needed for translucent shopping and food waste bags. Mvera B5011 compostable film grade resin is available immediately. For more information about Mvera B5011, including a product bulletin, please visit the Company's product page
